How can we help?

Simple answers about Flinktax and German taxes — in plain English.

Getting started

Flinktax helps international employees in Germany file their tax return and get money back. You upload your documents, answer simple questions in English, and our tax experts prepare and submit everything to the Finanzamt.

Anyone who worked in Germany as an employee — including people on a Blue Card, students with a job, and people who have already left Germany. Freelancers with side income are covered in our Premium plan.

No. You can use Flinktax in English, German, Turkish or Russian, and we handle all German-language correspondence with the tax office for you.

Creating your account takes about 2 minutes. Most people finish their questions and uploads in 15–20 minutes.

Documents

The most important one is your Lohnsteuerbescheinigung (annual tax statement from your employer). Receipts for work expenses, insurance statements and a Mietbescheinigung can increase your refund.

Ask your employer's HR or payroll team for a copy — they are required to provide it. In many cases we can also retrieve the data electronically with your permission.

PDF, JPG and PNG up to 15 MB each. A clear phone photo is perfectly fine.

Refund

After submission, the Finanzamt usually needs 6–12 weeks. You can follow every step on the Refund status page and we'll notify you as soon as money is on its way.

The average refund in Germany is around €1,000. Use our free calculator for an estimate based on your situation.

We answer them for you. If we need anything from you, you'll get a clear task in your Flinktax account.
